FIFA WORLD CUP FAQ

 Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions addressing changes to Court Operations during the FIFA World Cup.

Will the courthouse be open during the World Cup?

  • Yes, the Courthouse will maintain regular business hours from 8:30 am -5:00 pm every day during the World Cup.  On certain days -- in particular game days -- some operations may be curtailed or shifted to virtual/on-line.

Will MARTA be operating bus and train services? 

  • Yes, check the MARTA website for the most current schedules and information 

Will the County shuttle to the Justice Center Complex be running for staff and jurors?

  • Yes, the County parking lots will remain open and the shuttle service will be operating (although on game days there may be traffic delays, especially just before game time).

Are the County parking lots for employees and jurors open during the World Cup?

  • Yes, the County parking lots will remain open and the shuttle service will be operating (although on game days there may be traffic delays, especially just before game time).

Will the pay lots around the Courthouse be open during the World Cup?

  • Yes, and, as of this posting, those lots will be charging higher rates on game days. Monthly pass holders should verify parking availabilty with the parking company. Space will likely be very limited on game days.

Will court hearings still be held in person?

  • Each judge is determining his/her own approach to court hearings.  You should contact your lawyer or the judge's chambers to determine if a hearing that has been scheduled in your case will be in person or virtually (although the calendar notice may make clear the format the judge has selected).  The contact list for the various Superior Court Judges' chambers is here.  Contact information for State Court Judges can be found here.  Contact information for Magistrate Court Judges can be found here.

How can I look up my case information?

I received a jury summons. Do I need to report?

  • Yes.  Courts will be selecting juries and proceeding with trials during the World Cup. Remember that you should call 404-612-4600 (select Option 1) the evening before the date of your service to see if your juror group number (found on your summons) needs to report. You can also check your reporting status by going to https://fultoncourts.jpjuroraccess.com the evening before the date of your service.

I need to submit documentation for an excusal.  How can I do this?  

  • You can do this in one of three ways: (1) e-mail the document to info.juryservices@fultoncountyga.gov, (2) go to https://fultoncourts.jpjuroraccess.com to upload the document, or (3) fax your document to 404-612-2613.

Where should I park?  

  • Paid parking may be more expensive and scarcer during the World Cup. Free juror parking and a free shuttle to the Courthouse will be available. Please scan the QR Code on your parking pass included with your summons for driving and parking information OR go to our website at https://www.fultonsuperiorcourtga.gov/juror-parking-and-directions. Jury Services does not validate paid parking.

What if I need to speak to someone about my service?

  • Call the Jury Services office between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, at 404-612-4600 and press Option 2 to speak to a representative. You can also e-mail Jury Services at info.juryservices@fultoncountyga.gov.

What should I do to prepare for jury service?  

  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the Courthouse. Traffic may be heavier than usual downtown due to World Cup activities. You may want to bring reading material or work (WiFi is available) for any waiting periods.

What are the Family Division’s in-person operating hours?    

  • The Family Division will provide in-person services daily from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, throughout the World Cup. The Family Division website is available 24/7.

Can I still file a Temporary Protective Order?    

  • Yes. The Courthouse will be open every weekday throughout the World Cup for people who wish to petition the Court for a Temporary Protective Order.

How do I file a Temporary Protective Order?    

  • Protective Order petitions must be completed in person at the Courthouse. Staff at the Family Division can assist with this process. 
  • Information and requirements for filing can be found on the Family Division TPO page.  
  • When filing for a Temporary Protective Order, you must provide:
    • The respondent’s first and last name; and 
    • The respondent’s Fulton County residential address. 

Will hearings be held in person?   

  • Some will be in person and some will be virtual.
  • Ex Parte Hearings are in person. Ex Parte Hearings are scheduled daily at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Petitioners should arrive at the courthouse at least two (2) hours prior to the scheduled hearing time to complete required paperwork and attend an Ex Parte Hearing the same day.
  • All other hearings are virtual: 12-Month Protective Order Hearings, Motion Calendars, Name Change/Vital Records Hearings, Inmate Hearings, and Child Support Hearings. Your Court Order and/or Hearing Notice will include the Zoom information for your hearing.

Will the County's mediation services continue during the World Cup?

  • Yes. The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office will continue to provide mediation services.

Will mediations be in person or virtual?    

  • All mediations will be conducted virtually.

I am required to report to Pretrial Services as a condition of my bond.  Do I need to report during the World Cup?

  • Pretrial Services will be open and operating during the World Cup.  You should contact your supervising officer or call 404-612-2626 to determine your reporting obligations.

Can I come to the JRC for in-person services?

  • Yes, the JRC will be open from 9:00 am-4:00 pm for in-person services and may be subject to change during the event period. All changes to in-person hours will be posted on the website.

Can I call the JRC to get information on available services and resources?    

  • Yes, the JRC staff will be available by phone from 8:30 am- 4:30 pm daily at 404-612-4544  or 404-612-2789.

Where can I get my documents notarized?    

  • The Justice Resource Center provides notary service for family law documents only.

What information is available on your website?    

  • Our website contains information on finding a lawyer, family law and senior services, forms and packets, legal research, housing clinic information, temporary protective orders, and intepreter requests. The JRC website is https://jrc.fultonsuperiorcourtga.gov/

Will the Accountability Courts remain open during the World Cup?    

  • Yes.  All Accountability Court will remain open during the World Cup, although some services may operate on a different schedule.  You should check with your Compliance Coordinator or someone else from your program for additional information.

How can participants get information about specific services during this period?    

  • Participants should contact their Compliance Coordinator directly with any questions about their required services or schedules.

Will court sessions change during the World Cup?

  • Yes -- some court sessions may be virtual/on-line during the World Cup.  Participants should speak with their Compliance Coordinator for details about how these changes may affect them.
